WHO ARE WE?

As a museum dedicated to the art and history of the ancient diocese of Tongeren-Maastricht-Liège, the Treasure House of Liège is the historical partner of the Liège Archéoforum, the archaeological site of the former Saint Lambert Cathedral of Liège. This enormous bishop’s seat had been destroyed during the French Revolution. Liège Cathedral Treasury offers a journey full of fascinating insights into the art and history of the former prince-bishopric and diocese of Liège.

Our expertise

With its completely renewed and significantly extended collection presented in 10 thematically structured rooms set around the cathedral cloisters (1291 m²), the major artworks of the former cathedral are displayed with other art pieces coming from churches destroyed during the French Revolution, or made during the 19th century. The museum’s precious pieces include, among others, the reliquary of Charles the Bold or the reliquary bust of Saint Lambert. 

The goal of the Liège Cathedral Treasury is to show that these church treasures indeed represent the sacred heritage, and at the same time the historical and artistic awareness of a city or region.
